Where does the name Rainier Animal Fund come from?
The Rainier Animal Fund (RAF) comes from the Rainier Veterinary Hospital where the fund was formed. Rainier Veterinary Hospital’s owner, Dr. Debra Nicholson, founded RAF and is currently the organization’s executive director.
What is Rainier Animal Fund’s core mission?
The Rainier Animal Fund is dedicated to ensuring veterinary care is accessible to western Washington pets and the people who love them.
Who does the Rainier Animal Fund help?
Rainier Animal Fund (RAF) assists families who are able to demonstrate substantial financial need and cannot afford the full cost of their pet’s veterinary care. This help is provided through RAF “In-Service” surgery and advanced care clinics and by applying for a grant to cover individual care on a case-by-case basis.
How exactly does Rainier Animal Fund help pets in need?
Rainier Animal Fund raises funds to provide free advanced care and surgical services for low-income families along with medical grants to cover individual care on a case-by-case basis. Qualifying pet-owner families will be able to apply for available grant funds to help cover a portion of this care.
Rainier Animal Fund does not cover diagnostic procedures though some exceptions to this policy may be considered by our Executive Director.
How does a family reach out for help?
Families in need can view our Clinics page for information on upcoming “In-Service” surgery and advanced care clinics. Those families needing funds to cover additional, individualized care for their pets can visit our Grants page to fill out an application and connect with our team.
How long has Rainier Animal Fund been in the Pacific Northwest?
The Rainier Animal Fund was founded in November 2016, and we re-launched with an expanded mission in 2019.
Who are Rainier Animal Fund partner hospitals in the region?
Rainier Animal Fund currently partners with Elliott Bay Animal Hospital, Rainier Veterinary Hospital and Bothell Pet Hospital. In addition, RAF receives supporting surgery care from Homeward Pet Adoption Center on a limited basis.
A handful of organizations in the region are doing similar work. How does the Rainier Animal Fund feel it will make a difference in the field?
So many families in this region are in need. We applaud the organizations leading the way on these initiatives and look forward to being a part of the larger solution. Our goal is simple: to help ensure Western Washington families have access to surgical and advanced veterinary care for their pets.
