Meet Jack, the Doberman
Jack, our blue Doberman, came into our lives through Homeward Pet Adoption Center, and he quickly stole our hearts with his big brown eyes. We’d never had a dog of our own before, but Jack instantly felt like part of the family. His playful and inquisitive nature keeps us on our toes and has brought so much laughter into our home.
Our world turned upside down when Jack became suddenly ill in October 2020. He was lethargic, wouldn’t eat, and he just wasn’t himself. We rushed him to the emergency vet, but because the COVID-19 pandemic had put such a strain on finances, we couldn’t afford the costly next steps to figure out what was wrong. We felt helpless as Jack’s condition got worse, and didn’t know where to turn for support.
That’s when Homeward Pet connected us with Rainier Animal Fund. At their clinic, everyone treated Jack as if he was their own, quickly discovering that he’d swallowed a cat toy that was blocking his intestines. He needed emergency surgery right away. The veterinarians and staff jumped into action, performing a complex two-hour procedure to remove the toy and repair the damage.
After three long weeks of healing, the Cone-of-Achievement was finally retired, to the great happiness of Jack. He fully recovered, all small-sized cat toys found new homes, and we finally were able to resume our walks and hikes.
We don’t know what we would have done without Rainier Animal Fund’s help, compassion, and support. The entire team was incredibly kind and dedicated. This is the first time we have received help from a non-profit organization, and it definitely was an eye-opener to the importance of supporting organizations like this because they do come with aid in the darkest hours. We are definitely going to be lifelong supporters of Rainier Animal Fund.
