Meet Kiwi, the kitten
When our 13-week-old kitten, Kiwi, was hit by a car, we were devastated. She couldn’t walk, and we couldn’t afford the emergency care she so desperately needed. At that moment, the Rainier Animal Fund clinic felt like our only option, and we brought her in, hoping for a miracle. The volunteer team was incredible, and after running diagnostics, they gave us both good and bad news. The good news was that Kiwi could make a full recovery. The bad news was that she needed a specialized orthopedic surgery that the clinic couldn’t perform.
But they didn’t stop there. The Rainier Animal Fund team partnered with the amazing people at Summit Veterinary Referral Center, who specialize in the care little Kiwi needed. A veterinary surgeon, Dr. Mike Weh, made room in his packed schedule to perform Kiwi’s surgery — a femoral head ostectomy. It was the procedure that would give her a pain-free life and the ability to play like a kitten again.
Thanks to the compassion and resources of the Rainier Animal Fund and their partners at Summit Veterinary Referral Center, Kiwi is back home with us, safe and well. We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who stepped up to save our sweet girl.
