Photo Essay: A Day in the Life of the Rainier Animal Fund In-Service Clinic

Photography by Stephanie Jefferson, tabby & chow pet photography

As they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” A single image can convey the beauty, connections and complexity of a moment more effectively than a mere verbal description alone. Whether they are moments of joy or compassion or the intensity of a life held in the balance, a picture will help transport you there and provide you with a brief look into the lives of others and the stories they have to tell.

Shared here today are the works of photographer Stephanie Jefferson who has captured the spirit of the Rainier Animal Fund. Her pictures were taken at our most recent In-Service surgical clinic on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Elliott Bay Animal Hospital. Along the way, Stephanie was able to highlight the essential care of our amazing, veterinary professional volunteers along with their beloved patients who count on us to provide them with the veterinary care they so desperately need. Her photos showcased the joy and dedication of our team along with our commitment to the larger community we serve; all made possible by our donors and volunteers as well as  generous hospitals like Elliott Bay Animal Hospital. Here are their stories:

Sarah (left) and Gwen (right) have worked in their respective fields for many years and are able to share with our volunteer team their years of experience managing complex surgical and pain management cases. Experience that is essential to treating those cases requiring specialized care.

Each clinic day is filled with comfort and a little joy; all part of our quality care.

The heart of our success is teamwork. We have volunteer assistants, technicians and doctors from around the sound who come together to help make a difference in the lives of each of these pets and their owners.

Marie (left) and Shawna (right) take the time to carry the little ones around until they are ready to see their doctor. Sometimes a little hug is all that is needed.

While this specific clinic had quite a few little pups, there are always many amazing cats in need of our attention and care. We are always happy to be there for them.

Bringing all our volunteer teams together gives them a chance to learn from one another and share experiences. Who knows who might be watching? Perhaps the next generation.

Quiet, calm and focused attention is all part of our patient care. We are here for them and, in turn, they give us a chance to make a difference.

Veterinary healthcare professionals work for years to establish the skills they need to care for your pets. Those skills are put to the test each and every day.

And sometimes, just sometimes, there is one little guy that steals our hearts and we all take turns getting to know them while making sure they know they are safe and loved.

And lastly, it is all about being there for them. Showing some love and doing our best to give them the essential care they need so they might thrive and live healthy, happy lives with the people who love them. (Note: last photo on right was shared by a volunteer, but wanted to be sure this kitty had a place in the album.)

(For all of those volunteers missing from the photo gallery, please know you are so very much appreciated for all you do. We will get your picture next time!)
