Rainier Animal Fund In-Service Clinic Stories

Photography by Jim Bennett, PhotoBakery

(Editor’s Note: All pictures were taken at the Rainier Animal Fund In-Service Clinic on April 2, 2022 at Elliott Bay Animal Hospital.)

We have found that the best way to tell our story is through photos; especially those captured by the generous professionals who take time out of their schedules to help us document our work. For this, we are truly grateful.

Photos are unique. In one frame, they are able to capture a moment in time; the dedicated veterinary technician comforting a scared or painful pet, the doctor, in all earnestness, making their plan for care and the volunteers, always the volunteers, doing all they can to lend a hand and help heal the heart of a concerned pet owner. As they say, “these are their stories…”

Our volunteers come from across the sound; some with years of experience, while others are taking their first steps in the field. All are essential and, working together, they are able to provide the comfort and care all our patients need.

Our clinic focuses on patients in need of advanced care including dental care, surgical procedures and full workups to help identify underlying, serious health issues. A thorough exam is always the first step in that care.

We are very lucky to have veterinary specialists volunteering their time. With their support, we are able to assess those cases that need that additional expertise to determine the next steps in care.

Quiet, calm and focused attention is all part of our patient care. We are here for them and, in turn, they give us a chance to make a difference.

Veterinary healthcare professionals work for years to establish the skills they need to care for your pets. Those skills are put to the test each and every day.

Bringing all our volunteer teams together gives them a chance to learn from one another and share experiences.

It takes many hands to attend to one patient. Teamwork is at the heart of our clinic success.

Dental care is the number one request we receive. It is an essential procedure, but is often one out of reach for many of our clients. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and donors, we can ensure this care is offered.

Our surgical teams offer a fine, delicate approach to their care; a skill that has taken years to hone for surgeons and technicians alike.

There is more to care than the treatments and workups. There is the quiet, calm observation of those in our charge and the in-depth conversations with the owners who are waiting on bated breath to know that their pet will be okay.

And lastly, it is all about being there for them. Showing some love and doing our best to give them the essential care they need so they might thrive and live healthy, happy lives with the people who love them.

(For all of those volunteers missing from the photo gallery, please know you are so very much appreciated for all you do. We will get your picture next time!)
